For over two decades I have been "Dr. B" at Onondaga Community College, in Syracuse, NY, where I was a tenured professor in English and Gender Studies. Freshly retired, I have changed focus as a teacher and an artist. The American Welding Society has conferred no certifications to me. I have what my dad taught me, 12 years of experience as a hobby, and a love of sharing new learning experiences with people. Vaporizing Foil Actuator Welding, Cold welding in space, TIG welding plumbing, these are all things I cannot do.
Instead, I use the OG method of fusing metals with electricity: arc welding. Electrodes have become more sophisticated, but the basic machine and system are 100 years old. I use the Lincoln Electric Arc 225 "buzzbox," which hasn't changed much since its production started in 1961. I challenge myself to use scrap in every piece, as you'll notice in the gallery.
